Professor Georgy Fomenko read an open lecture for students and educators at the Nukus branch of the Tashkent State Agrarian University (Uzbekistan)

   The topic of the lecture was “Economic Transition and Environmental Conservation”. Being an international expert of the UNDP/Adaptation Fund/Uzhydromet joint project “Developing climate resilience of farming communities in the drought probe parts of Uzbekistan” Professor Georgy Fomenko touched upon the issues of climate risks, assessment of natural resources and ecosystem services, the transition of countries to green economy, sustainable development of territories. The professor spoke about the institutional features of environmental protection, described the tools of environmental regulation, identified the ways of gradual greening of the economy.
   The lecture ended with a lively discussion. Answering questions, Professor Georgy Fomenko emphasized that nowadays sustainable development implies not only a concern for future generations, but, primarily the survival, increasing the resilience of countries, cities and settlements. The basis of the modern understanding of sustainable development is the orientation toward greening economical development while maintaining and improving the quality of life due to accelerated technological green modernization.
